What is a domain name?
Every company or organization that wants to be on the internet has to
register a domain name for use as their on-line identity. This is the
name that clients and other internet users will use to access on-line
services such as the organization's website or email system. For example,
Labfinder registered the domain name labfinder.net, so that users on the
internet can access our website (and use our services etc) at www.labfinder.net
and send email to us at username@labfinder.net. Much like a company's
name, logo, or freephone number, a domain name has marketing value when
customers can easily remember and associate it with the organization.
Since over 11 million domain names have already been registered world-wide,
it can be difficult to find a good domain name.
Why do I need a domain name?
It is the first step in setting up an online business. Until you have
a domain name, or Net address, you have no virtual premises to trade from
on the web. Before you can establish a convincing web presence, it is
best to secure a great name. Clearly, there is a need to register a web
version of your own trading name, but very often this does not describe
your activities very well.
Why a generic name?
Domain names, to be effective, need to be short, sharp and snappy. Not
only do they have to be memorable, they have to sum up what the company
is all about - they are effectively your 'brand'. The list of generic
domains on the right have recently been registered by Labfinder and are
available for you to use for your e-mail address and/or website.

domain names.
